Dr. Marcela Guerrero, assistant curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art, spoke about the influence of Mexican artists on American art — using as a focal point the Whitney’s exhibition Vida Americana: Mexican Muralists Remake American Art, 1925-1945. She showed a selection of images from the exhibition and encouraged alums to visit the museum itself to see more. Many works on display had not been seen in the United States, either in a very long time or at all. Hosted by the Yale Latino Alumni Network, the webinar was co-sponsored by 1stGenYale.
Yale alumnae Wendy Maldonado D’Amico ’93, Cristina Gonzalez ‘94, and Isabella Lores ’12 led the discussion and live Q&A, and Mari Hinojosa ’94 provided valuable behind-the-scenes assistance.
